Game options

The options menu allows you to change various settings on your character. Click the spanner or wrench at the bottom of the player interface, and the options screen is displayed.

The 1st option is the screen brightness control, select how bright you want the game window to display, by clicking one of the brightness buttons.

The 2nd option allow you to toggle between using two mouse buttons to control the game, or just one. In single button mode the menu will always appear when you click on more than one item. Some people find this easier, and it's also handy if your mouse only has one button!

The 3rd option allows you to turn chat effects on and off, chat effects are ways of making your chat appear coloured, or moving onscreen, this is useful if you want to attract attention.

See the RuneScape 2 FAQ's for more details on what chat effects are availiable.

The next 3 options are volume controls for the audio in the game.
Click one of the 4 settings for each to fix the volume, or turn it off.

Music is the background music that plays for each area of the map, effect volume deals with all sound effects in the game, including combat, skills and magic.

Jingles play whenever you level up a skill, or complete a quest, a short tune is played to remind you that you have gained a level.

Player controls

The final options menu is the player controls. Click the running man icon at the bottom of your player interface, and the player controls screen appears as below.

The 1st option is move speed. Select either walking or running mode. Obviously in running mode you can move across the RuneScape world much quicker, but your energy level will reduce faster. See the energy level displayed to the right of the move speed buttons.

Weight also affects your energy level, if you are equipped with heavy armour, then your total weight will be increased, therefore making your energy level reduce even faster.

The auto retaliate button allows you to select whether your character will automatically fight back whilst in combat.

Use this if you want to manually control how your character fights in battle.

The last section are the emote animation buttons, these are a number of pre-defined actions and emotions your character can perform, use these to show how you feel to other players in the RuneScape world.
